Winning Design: Idea 3
Designer:
Tayyab Ijaz
Product Description:
A device that effectively wraps a laptop charging cord eliminating the possibility of wire damage and entanglement.
Operation:
The charging brick is placed into the rectangular area and the wires are lined up with the cutouts on the sides. Each wire is wrapped around the two L shaped pieces on each side and then clipped on to the side clip so it doesn't unravel. There are three thin extrusions along under the brick to reduce contact and decrease heat to brick. There are air hole cutouts all along the outside faces allowing some air flow to also help with heat.
Justification:
The device has the ability to wrap a laptop charging cord and keep it from getting tangled with other cords. It also makes it easier for one to take their laptop and charger on the go. All in all, this product will be great for anyone sick of untangling and damaging their cords.

Half of the reviewers prefer concept 1 because of being authentic and thin. This would also be my choice because concept 1 looks simplistic and cheap. The product solves the problem of cord being not organize in a genuine way. Although concept 3 looks cool, it just would be too expensive to produce. Also, concept 2 is very similar to 1 but lacks holes for air flow. Other reviewers confirmed they were all good ideas, however, they were concerned about pricing and would want the cheapest and most effective design.

Suggestions
1. A suggestion I have would be to create multiple versions of this that could keep track of more than just two charging cables. 2. add a mini light so that you can see it at night time when your light is off. 3. The only thing that might be cool to add is a clip or belt loop so you can carry them with you. 4. I also agree with some of my classmates that adding a clip/adhesive aspect so that it can be attached to a desk etc would be beneficial. 5. The only suggestions I have is having the ability to hold more than two chargers and the possibility that some chargers fray when wrapped repeatedly. 6. Imagine silicone something slightly stronger then silicone but not quite plastic. |
Questions
1. I would however like to know if there could be a similar design that could work with either multiple cables and/or different sized ones, such as laptop chargers. 2. But from what I understand this is just a device to store the cables, does this have any functionality to stop plugged in cables from tangling? 3. What material were you planning on using? Will wrapping the cord too tightly snap the edges? |
The suggestions and questions given by fellow classmates was very beneficial for developing an understanding on what our design should be. One of the suggestions that I thought was good was adding a clip/adhesive aspect so that it can be attached to a desk and other surfaces. Also a good question was usage of different block sizes and cord. In conclusion, I made sure to think about the block case being expandable for different sizes.
Final Design
Description:
We decided to choose this design as our final design. It not only effectively solves the issue of wrapping a charging cord, it helps solve another problem associated with chargers; brick over-heating. The extrusions elevate the brick so very minimal surface area of the brick is making contact with another surface. Along with the air holes, the brick will never run the risk of over heating. The handy clips on the side of the device allow for people to unwrap only as much as they need and clip the rest of the cord back to keep it from unwrapping. This will reduce the amount of extra cord hanging or laying around reducing the risk of injury due to tripping. All in all, this product will be great due to the fact that people will no longer have to fight with tangled cords or go out and buy another cord/brick due to damage.
